Edinburghs Christmas Market Map Of The Winter Extravaganza And What People Can Find There

Edinburgh’s Christmas Market are finally here, transforming the capital into a winter spectacular.

Recently crowned the most popular in Europe, the huge market draws in more than 4,000 people.

The winter extravaganza offers an array of Christmas activities including markets, an ice rink and a Christmas Wheel.

Here is what you can find at this iconic event:

East Princes Street gardens:
Head to East Princes Street gardens to find traditional chalets serving artisanal festive foods, decorations, gifts, and other Christmas treats.

Street food vendors will be serving everything from Bavarian produce to Scottish delicacies and winter tipples, craft beers, and hot chocolates.

Princes Street gardens:
The Forth One Big Wheel returns to East Princes Street Gardens to give passengers a unique perspective of the city.

It gives incredible views of the historic Old Town, Edinburgh Castle and Arthur’s Seat, as well as sparkling evening views of Edinburgh’s Christmas attractions.

People can also enjoy the comfort of the enclosed, weather-proof pods, with an informative soundtrack by some of Forth One’s finest DJs.

Open 10am – 10pm (last admission 9.45pm), tickets are date-specific but there are no set time slots. Admission is on a first come, first served basis.

West George Street:
People can get their skates on and glide all the way up and down Edinburgh’s famous George St on the alpine ice rink, sponsored by Lidl GB, in partnership with Essential Edinburgh.

George Street is home to a spectacular new Edinburgh’s Christmas Ice Rink, nestled between Castle Street and Charlotte Square.

This year, people can skate in comfort amongst the stunning architecture of George Street on the 65m long ice rink with a new clear roof.

People can also warm up with a mulled wine or hot chocolate from the winter warming food and drink village.

For those not so graceful on skates, people can enjoy some festive treats from the bar and food stalls while enjoying the views and skating.

How to get to Edinburgh’s Christmas market
If you are leaving Edinburgh’s Waverly train station, it takes just seven minutes to walk to the market on East Princes Street Gardens.

If you are leaving Edinburgh’s Waverly train station, it takes just seven minutes to walk to the market on West George Street.

When is Edinburgh Christmas Market 2022?
Friday, November 25 is the official opening of Edinburgh’s Christmas Markets.

The Christmas Markets, Santa Land, Forth One Big Wheel and other festive rides opened from 2pm on Friday.

Meanwhile, the ice rink in George Street is open from Saturday, November 26 until January 3, 2023.

The other festivities are due to run until January 1, 2023.

Edinburgh’s Christmas Market and the other attractions will be open daily from 10am until 10pm.

Do you need to get tickets for Edinburgh Christmas Market?
People don’t need to get a ticket to go to Edinburgh Christmas Market, it’s free.

But beware of queueing systems which will be in place at peak times. In December 2021, hour-long queues formed of eager Christmas shoppers.
